What is OrangeSlyce?

OrangeSlyce is a fresh and modern way to access recommended college student talent for project-based design work. Our target customer is a small business owner who is looking for a combination of both price and quality in their design.

How does OrangeSlyce help with design projects?

The OrangeSlyce team believes motivated college students provide the best fit for design projects. Using our automated PEMA™ process we are able to locate and recommend students using a robust list of criteria. When you post a project using OrangeSlyce you are immediately recommended five college students with design expertise. On top of that, you get a two-week posting on our job board that is advertised to student talent across the U.S.

What is PEMA™?

PEMA™ stands for Precision Employment Matching Algorithm (whew!) and is the technology that works behind the scenes to match your project with the right designer. The algorithm works by using criteria and wording from a design project to recommend students that are ranked high in our system to fulfill the particular project's needs. This ranking process selects the student talent: based on skills, interests, work experience, location, activity, positive feedback and dozens other variables.

How much does it cost?

Students can create profiles, apply for jobs, and be matched with businesses at absolutely no charge. Businesses can create profiles, post projects, and receive matches for free. Obviously, once a business hires a designer, the business must commit to paying that designer upon the successful completion of the project. This money is paid to the designer when the project is completed (for more information on this, see the Business FAQ). When a project is completed, we charge 10% of the project's total budget. This transaction fee is what allows us to keep the site running; it's also what allows students to look for work (and businesses to look for students) free of charge.

If a business and student decide they don't feel like paying OrangeSlyce, what's to stop us from completing the project outside of OrangeSlyce after we're matched?

If our Terms of Use and your conscience don't dissuade you from lying to OrangeSlyce and working with your client offsite, then it's certainly possible that you could do this and get away with it. A word of caution for the less scrupulous among you: it's a jungle out there. If you keep your work onsite, OrangeSlyce can help protect you if you end up getting scammed. If you try to do everything under the table, you won't have much recourse if things go awry. At the end of the day, you're perfectly capable of making your own decisions, and we're in the business of making matches, not judgments. Just keep in mind that a person who's willing to risk alienating you by suggesting that the project be done under the table might have more in mind than saving $20 on a $200 project.

I really like the website. Who did you get to design it?

It's taken a lot of sweat and tears to design the beautiful interface we use now. Although there have been many that contributed to this process, Founder and CEO Sean Coleman leads all of the design and development.

How did OrangeSlyce get to be so darn amazing?

We'd like to think it's us, but really our service all comes from our belief in the student designers themselves. Student talent is what really powers OrangeSlyce.
